Lillian’s story
ONCE UPON A TIME a singer-songwriter from North Carolina wandered into the realm of Voiceover. What she found there was a natural crossover between two worlds. As it turns out, music is a language and verbal communication is musical. She also found that Voiceover scratched an itch music didn’t. Planning a single concert takes months. Voiceover allowed her to connect with an audience every single day. As a trained vocalist with a love for being behind a microphone, she was hooked.
Since her humble beginnings in VO, Lillian Field has truly honed her craft. At first living across from a noisy hospital, she would drive across town to audition in her friend’s music studio. But the commute didn’t stop her. She would frequently call her mentor, Chloe Taylor, on the drive home to say things like, “I can’t stop smiling. No literally, I was smiling so much while reading scripts that my face is stuck.”
Eventually she moved to a quieter area. Holed up in a closet, which once held her husband’s wardrobe, she would audition most nights after her nine-to-five. Her apartment shared a ceiling, floor, and wall on every side. One time in preparation for a live session, she left a note on her upstairs neighbor’s door asking him to please not vacuum between the hours of 1-2pm.
Finally she moved even further outside of town and now, Lillian has not only built a custom state-of-the-art vocal booth with top-of-the-line equipment, she’s also built a large client base and catalog of work ranging from beloved local businesses to national brand campaigns.
Little did she know that signing up for an introductory class in Asheville, NC would change the trajectory of her life. Today, Lillian has the best day job in the world and no signs of slowing down. And her husband has his closet back!
