FAQs

  • Lillian’s professional home recording studio is equipped with double-insulated walls and the highest quality acoustic foam on the market. She typically uses the industry-standard Neumann TLM 103 condenser microphone with a pop filter (and occasionally uses an Avantone Pro tube mic for singing projects). She runs everything through a Focusrite 2i2 interface and 2020 MacBook Pro. Lillian is a great editor, and has even done editing work for other Voice Actors! When she sends your final files, you can expect any mistakes, pops, or weird breaths to be edited out seamlessly. Note: you will be responsible for editing desired takes into your recording. Lillian will send you a single, clean file with all takes included, unless otherwise agreed upon.

  • Revisions include “punch-ins” and “pick-ups”.

Revisions for Lillian’s mistakes are included at no additional cost.

For revisions due to minor changes to the script after recording/initial file delivery: $100

For re-reads (more than 30% of the original script): a special negotiated rate not to exceed 75% of Original Rate

Performance Revisions - for undirected sessions, where Lillian records from her own studio at her own direction and sends file(s) to you:

She is happy to include one round of performance revisions at no additional cost. Please communicate any and all new directions at this time. After first round of revisions, subsequent rounds are billable.

If revisions are required due to pronunciation preferences not specified before the first recording (e.g.: "off-ten" vs. "off-en," "day-ta" vs. "dah-ta") these will be billable.

When sending a change request, please highlight the lines in the original script. If applicable, please include the recording or video for context (with time stamp) so she can match pacing and energy.

Please submit all change requests within 30 days of receiving the original recording. After 30 days, any and all change requests will be charged the original rates.

Revisions must occur before airing/use. Revisions to a script that has already run (e.g.: alternate wording for targeting purposes) are considered "updates" and are billable at a negotiated rate to fall slightly under the cost of a new read.

  • Even one-word "pickups" are still revisions. Lillian will match the revisions for tone, pacing, volume, and room acoustics. Please understand that revising is a multi-step, often time-consuming process.

If any revision is needed after the initial recording or first-round of revisions, it will be billed at the $100 rate.

Revision to a script that has already run (for example, you need alternate wording for a campaign update) is considered an "update" and usually costs almost the same as a new spot, since new usage is planned.

Here’s a tip to help make the revision process a breeze: provide something that puts the revisions in context. For instance, send Lillian the working edit of the voice-only file (no music) and a revised copy of the whole script with changes clearly noted/highlighted.

  • Yes, and she prefers it! Lillian offers live one-hour sessions free of charge. They are a great way for you to get what you want right off the bat. Lillian is pretty great at directing herself, but working in real time with the client takes out any guess work and is the most efficient option for all involved.

The duration of live sessions will be dependent on the project’s scope/script length.

  • Lillian’s fees are based on usage, so there is no flat fee per word or minute. Lillian consults the industry-standard GVAA Rate Guide to determine a proper quote (e.g.: paid broadcast placement, markets, length of time on air). There are many ways to use a voice actor’s performance, and the more places the performance is used (or the more exposure you give to it), the higher the quote will be. This guide takes into account all of these factors and is a super useful tool for clients and voice actors alike. However, there’s no need to be overwhelmed by all the options. Lillian’s contact form makes it easy to get her all the info she needs.

Lillian’s minimum quote is usually $350. That includes the opportunity to direct remotely, one free revision (if needed), the time it takes to record and the clean file delivery you will receive just hours after she records.

Lillian is happy to offer a batch discount for multiple spots recorded in one sitting.

Your quote will be higher if Lillian’s performance(s) will be placed in a paid context (e.g.: social media, streaming, or traditional broadcast).

  • That depends! Any spots Lillian records for you can be used as long as you want on your website, in non-public spaces, or in organic (unboosted, unpaid) social media posts.

However, a voiceover performance is not a simple buy-and-keep transaction if your spot will be used in paid-placement (YouTube pre-roll, TV/radio, streaming, etc.).

It’s important to note, “full buyouts” can prevent voice actors from entering certain agreements in the future, due to competition conflicts. For this reason, Lillian would need to charge a much higher fee for a full buyout. She is always willing to give you a quote, though it might make more sense to buy as you go. The smallest block of usage is typically 3 months. You can always come back after your license expires to buy more time, if you need it.

  • Lillian can record 1 of 3 ways:

LIVE, DIRECTED SESSION on Zoom, Skype, or another platform. Lillian delivers the file to you soon after the session.

SOLO SESSION - Lillian works on her own and delivers files to you. (Please review her revision policy.)

SOURCE CONNECT SESSION - for high-volume studios that want to record on their end.

OK, 4 Ways… There’s always the chance she can travel to your studio to record, but that’s on a case-by-case basis. Lillian lives in Asheville, NC and travel expenses may apply if longer than a 2 hour drive.

  • A standard session is one hour, and often takes much less. Lillian can guide you, if need be. After you’ve confirmed the project details and quote, she will send you a scheduling link. No stress!
